Introducing Supernova Agent: Design System Maintenance, Done from a Chat

Supernova Agent is an AI agent built into Supernova. Describe the work and it documents components, cleans up tokens, links Figma and publishes, with you approving every publish and delete.

Summarize

"Show me components that don't have a documentation page, then create pages for them in our usual style."

That's one message. It used to be a week of someone's spare afternoons. Now it's a request you type into Supernova, watch run, and review before anything goes live.

Supernova Agent is an AI agent built into Supernova. You describe the work, and it reads, creates and updates your design system: documentation, tokens, components, Figma links, skills, contexts and export pipelines. It's in public beta from today, on every plan.

Why build an agent inside Supernova

Editor MCP already lets your own AI tools edit your design system, and it's still the right choice for work that spans other tools. But most maintenance happens where the system lives. You're on the Button page, you spot three missing states, and you don't want to switch apps to fix them.

The agent needs no setup and knows what you have open. Whatever page, token or component you're looking at is attached to the chat automatically, so "this page" and "these tokens" just work.

What you can hand it

The agent works on your design system's structured data, not on a copy of it. When it renames a token, the token is renamed. When it writes a page, the page is in your docs, in your style.

A few of the requests from the use cases guide:

JobExample request
Find answers"Which token should I use for error text?"
Audit docs"List documentation pages that are blank or nearly empty."
Write docs"Write a documentation page for the Checkbox component with anatomy, usage, and do's and don'ts. Match how we document other components."
Clean up tokens"Write descriptions for tokens that don't have one. Ask me if you're not sure."
Bulk rename"Rename the space tokens from space-1…space-8 to space-xs…space-3xl."
Deprecate"Mark Tag as deprecated, add a notice to its documentation page, and point to Chip as the replacement."
Connect Figma"Link Figma components to our components based on matching names."
Run code automation"Run the token export pipeline and tell me if it failed."
Build agent context"Turn our Writing guidelines page into a skill."

That last row matters more than it looks. The skills and contexts you build here are what the coding agents on your engineering team consume. The agent maintaining your system is also keeping the context those other agents depend on accurate.

You can attach files too: a CSV of colours, a screenshot for the Usage section, a PDF of brand guidelines.

You stay in control of what ships

An agent that edits a production design system needs limits. These are the ones in place:

  • It acts as you: It sees only what you can see and does only what your role allows. Your plan's limits still apply.
  • Publishing and deleting wait for you: The agent proposes these and waits for your confirmation in the chat. Before a delete, it lists everything that will be removed.
  • Every change is listed: Each reply names the items it changed, and you can open any of them without leaving the chat.
  • Docs edits are recoverable: Agent edits appear in Page history, so you can restore an earlier version of any page.

There's no one-click undo yet. To reverse something, ask the agent to revert it in the same chat, then check the result.

The habit Agent 101 recommends: audit first, then change. Ask "Which tokens are unused?", read the list, then ask it to delete them.

Availability and credits

Supernova Agent is in public beta on every plan. Anyone with Contributor, Editor, Admin or Owner permissions can use it.

Each message uses 50 workspace credits from your workspace's monthly allowance, and you can buy more at any time. That cost is subject to change during the beta. See workspace credits for how usage is tracked, and pricing for what each plan includes.

Start with the backlog you've been avoiding

Open the agent from the side navigation, or from the new Overview page, and give it the job that has sat on your list the longest. The undocumented components. The token descriptions nobody wrote. The deprecation that needs touching on twelve pages.

Then tell us what it got right and what it didn't. The beta is how we find out.
